April 1 – April 30, Battle of the Buildings Residence Hall Energy Challenge, An ENERGY STAR competition where each Residence Hall community works together to save energy and water. The two Residence Halls with the greatest percent reductions from a three-year baseline will win awards and be recognized on the University’s website and Newsletter. 

April 2021, Spotting Energy Waste: Plug-Load Exercise, An ENERGY STAR exercise involving the use of electric plug-load meters to identify and monitor common sources of energy waste replated to plug load. Sources include computers and monitors, printers/copiers, chargers, game consoles, clocks, and much more. Plug-load meters are available for rent at the residence hall front desk. 

April 2021, West Campus Combined Utility Plant (WCCUP) Virtual Walking Tour,  Virtual walking tour of the utility plant provides an in-depth look at the processes responsible for the transmission and distribution of critical utilities such as steam and chilled water across campus and to the medical center. To view the tour, visit

April 19, 2021, from 4:10 p.m. to 5:10 p.m., ENERGY STAR Benchmarking with James Novack

In collaboration with The University of Chicago’s Chicago Studies Program, and sponsored by the Program on the Global Environment, a one-hour Data in Dialogue Session will be held with the University of Chicago’s Facilities Data Analyst, James Novack. During this interactive conversation, students and staff alike will have the opportunity to directly experience a dive deep into the ENERGY STAR  data portal, take a look at how the University’s environmental impact is displayed within the campus’ energy use benchmarking, and speak with James concerning questions about the aforementioned topic.
