University of Chicago Releases New Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan

  • On April 22, 2022, the University released a greenhouse gas emissions reduction plan to meets its goal—previously announced in April 2020—to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030. The plan focuses on energy conservation measures in campus buildings, as well as renewable energy procurement and onsite renewable opportunities like solar panels and heat recovery chillers.

On-campus energy conservation will account for about half of the GHG emissions reduction by fiscal year 2030, and renewable energy procurement will support the remaining GHG emissions reduction necessary to achieve the goal.

You can view the entire plan on the Office of Sustainability website.
