International House set a record by reducing water usage by 54.1% in the two-week autumn conservation competition in residential housing. They also placed first with a 3.9% reduction in electricity usage.

The University of Chicago residence hall Burton-Judson Courts has won the Spring ENERGY STAR® 2025 Battle of the Buildings competition to conserve energy and water in residential housing that took place April 15–30 to celebrate Earth Month. The awards plaques have been made by students and staff from reclaimed Sugar Leaf Maple sourced on campus.

Two residence halls have won the Battle of the Buildings. Burton-Judson Courts achieved an impressive 18.5% reduction in water usage relative to their own baseline average over the two weeks of the competition. The other winner, Renee Granville-Grossman, led the reduction of energy usage with an 8% decrease relative to their own baseline average.
