Meet the Zero Waste Committee

Hill Bonin, third year, Environmental Science Major, Varsity Men’s Soccer Team
I joined the Zero-Waste committee because it is evident, now more than ever, that there is a dire need for people to get involved in conservation and environmental stewardship. I am excited to educate the student body about what they can do to help the environment.

Claire Costelloe, third year, Economics and Environmental Studies, Varsity Cross Country and Track Team
I joined the Zero Waste Committee because I was really excited about the prospect of integrating two things I care about very much, UC Athletics and sustainability. It’s amazing to see how simple changes can have significant effects on UChicago’s impact on the planet, and it’s been great to be part of developing this on campus.

Emily Hunt, fourth year, Public Policy, Varsity Swim & Diving Team
I've spent so much time in the athletic centers over my four years, and have observed many ways that they can be better with regards to sustainability. I'm excited to help UChicago Athletics become a sustainability leader on campus!

Cara LoPiano, fourth year, Environmental Science, Varsity Swim Team
I’m excited about Zero Waste because I think it is a great way to get people thinking about living a more sustainable lifestyle. I’m excited to see what great things this committee can accomplish!

Casey Mulroy, third year, Economics and Public Policy, recreational marathon runner
I joined the zero waste committee after taking the environmental management practicum in the fall and seeing how many aspects of campus life, specifically athletics, can benefit from sustainable changes. The zero waste event is a great way to encourage athletes and fans to be conscious of their environmental impact and think about sustainability in their everyday lives.

Maya Scheidl, fourth year, Environmental Studies Major & Visual Arts Minor, Varsity Swim Team
I joined the zero waste committee because I think it is really important for people to be more aware about the quantity and type of waste they create every day and how to adopt more sustainable habits. I am really excited about helping to plan and run the first zero - waste game at UChicago and I think that it will help to educate people about reducing their own waste!
