Sustainability

Welcome to UChicago

The Office of Sustainability is directing efforts to make the University of Chicago more sustainable. The Office guides and supports the work of students, faculty, and staff to share knowledge, develop skills, promote values, and initiate practices that foster a culture of sustainability on campus. We're working to raise visibility of local and global sustainability issues on campus, as well as advance intellectual debate and analysis on the critical environmental issues of our time.

In order to create a sustainable campus, we are not only addressing the every day issues of sustainability - recycling, green buildings, composting - but are also working to understand the long-term impacts of decisions we make today while illustrating the value of a thriving planet, for people and the environment.

Get involved!

SAGE—Sustainable Actions for a Greener Environment—is the Universitys green leadership program. Trained students, faculty, and staff help create a culture of sustainability on campus by raising awareness, spurring dialogue, and inspiring action among peers.

With over 200 trained Ambassadors, these individual actions, when taken collectively, add up to real change and real savings. SAGE reflects the dual dimensions of the Office of Sustainabilitys core message around environmental awareness—were not just green; were green and smart.
