From green construction to improved public transportation, the University is committed to principles of sustainability in its growth and development.
The University’s master plan encompasses the following key goals for the future:
- Respect valuable civic resources.
- Make the most of adjacent parks and acknowledge their role as campus entry portals.
- Embrace the city grid.
- Expand and improve campus connections by treating the streets as the primary open space structure supported by the quads and other open spaces.
- Improve access and connections.
- Increase and improve transportation options within the campus neighborhood.
- Develop better transit connections to the city and the region.
In addition, the University is committed to incorporating green construction techniques into its development plans. Currently, the University is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for green renovation of the Searle Chemistry Laboratory and the 6045 Kenwood Building.
