Landscaping
The campus encompasses a wide range of plants, trees, and open green spaces.
In 1997, the University of Chicago became one of the few institutions to be designated an official botanical garden by the American Public Gardens Association and Arboreta.
To foster sustainable gardening practices, the University maintains a native plants garden at the corner of 58th Street and Woodlawn Avenue.
Campus landscapers often use natural alternatives to fertilizers and pesticides. This same group is currently investigating greener equipment to reduce the use of gas-powered motors on campus.
