Energy Efficiency
The University works to reduce energy consumption across campus.
The University of Chicago promotes energy efficiency across the campus in a variety of ways.
In 2006, for example, the University took a significant step toward reducing its environmental impact by making a commitment to buy 5 percent of electrical consumption for its dorms from renewable wind sources.
We’re also committed to incorporating green construction techniques into development plans. Currently, the University is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for green renovation of the Searle Chemistry Laboratory and the 6045 Kenwood Building.
Other campus projects include the Battle of the Bulbs, a dorm-based competition to reduce electricity use sponsored by the Sustainability Council and Green Campus Initiative.
Are you aware of energy waste on campus? If so, please report the situation to the Energy Efficiency Committee.
