Bike to Work Week: June 12th -18th
Chicago’s Bike to Work Week is June 12-18th. Organized by the Active Transportation Alliance, this event is free and encourages employees to bike all or part of the way to work at least once during the week. Whether it’s a short ride to the metra station or the nearest bus stop, each trip counts! To support and celebrate your two-wheeled trip, commuter stations throughout the city and at Metra Stations across the region will provide free air, chain lube, Clif bar and coffee.
Over 326 teams have registered to participate in this year’s event. Companies are organized by category and division, and winners are selected based on the percentage of employees who biked to work during the week.
All participants are entered into a raffle to win prizes from the Bike Commuter Challenge sponsors, which include Goose Island Brewery, Caribou Coffee, Village Cycle Center and Clif Bar. They also receive bike maps, bike shop discount cards and bike to work guides. Prizes are awarded to the winners in each category. Team leaders receive a free technical t-shirt and will be honored at the sixth Annual Awards Luncheon in downtown Chicago in July.
Jump start your day by biking to work! If you’re interested in participating or being a team leader for your department, please visit http://www.activetrans.org/biketoworkweek or contact Katie Anson at kanson@uchicago.edu. Registration for this event closes Friday, June 4th.
Help spread the word and boost participation by posting this flyer in your department, office, or residence.
Challenge your department to compete with other Chicago organizations. Prizes are awarded to the organization with the highest percentage of cyclists.
