Energy

The University of Chicago promotes energy efficiency across the campus in a variety of ways.

For example, the University is installing real-time dashboards, which provide immediate feedback on energy consumption. To check out Searle Chemistry Laboratory's dashboard online, click here.

We’re also committed to incorporating green construction techniques into development plans. The University has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification for the renovation of the Searle Chemistry Laboratory and the 6045 S. Kenwood Building.  Other UChicago buildings in line for LEED Certification include the Lab School, Logan Arts Center, Eckhardt Research Center, and Chicago Theological Seminary.

Other campus projects include the Battle of the Bulbs, a dorm-based competition to reduce electricity use sponsored by Green Campus Initiative.

Are you aware of energy waste on campus? If so, please report the situation to the Work Center by calling (773) 834-1414.  If calling from a campus phone, dial 4-1414.
