Uncle Sony wants YOU to get your Office, Undergraduate House, or Lab SAGE Certified

April 2013

The Office of Sustainability has been busy creating a certification process for sustainable UChicago offices, residence houses, and laboratories. The certification will recognize those departments or houses that are reducing the environmental impact of their offices, homes or labs. Participants will be awarded a Silver, Gold or Platinum certification based upon the level of sustainability criteria they meet.

A significant portion of our campus's energy usage and waste production come from work and living space. "The SAGE certificate will encourage faculty, staff, and students to measure what their workplace or living space is already doing to be green and what further steps they can take to become more sustainable," said Ilsa Flanagan, Executive Director, Sustainability.

The SAGE certification criteria points will be organized into several different categories, including:

- Energy conservation
- Waste conservation
- Purchasing
- Engagement/Awareness

University offices, houses, and labs are eligible to participate in the pilot launch of this program. The application process includes completing a checklist and undergoing a site visit by a member of the Office of Sustainability. Participating organizations will then receive a certificate to commemorate their achievement and will be acknowledged on the Office of Sustainability's website.
