Don’t trash that! Donate reusable items during move out

May 31, 2011

In the mad rush to finish finals and move out at the end of the year, lots of stuff that can be donated and reused often gets thrown in the trash. The Sustainability Council and House System encourage all students to participate in End of Year Collections to help us reduce the amount of trash headed for landfill this spring.

Beginning during Reading Period, drop-off containers will be placed in residence halls. Simply bring your items to one of these containers and they will be donated to the Salvation Army. Here are just some of the items that will be accepted:

  • Appliances
  • Books
  • Clothing and accessories
  • Furniture
  • Kitchenware
  • Linens
  • Other household goods

All items must be in working order or otherwise good condition. For a more extensive list, please refer to the Salvation Army.

Donation boxes will be in residence halls beginning Thursday, June 2nd. The Salvation Army will pick them up on Friday, June 10th by 1pm. Ask Housing staff for the designated location in your dorm. Participating dorms are:

  • Blackstone House
  • Breckinridge House
  • Broadview Hall
  • Burton-Judson Courts
  • Maclean House
  • Max Palevsky Residential Commons
  • Pierce Tower
  • Snell-Hitchcock Hall
  • South Campus Residence Hall
  • Stony Island House
