Interns
The Office of Sustainability is always looking for opportunities to work with the University's of Chicago's talented students. Here are our current interns:
Melissa Chanthalangsy (Summer 2012 - Present)
Melissa Chanthalangsy studies Political Science with interests in environmental issues. As a Metcalf intern, she researches sustainable dining operations of peer institutions across the U.S. to gather a framework in which to promote the import of local and organic foods, and she helps manage the community Avant Garden for its diverse, delicious harvests. She started work on environmental initiatives in high school as a student representative in her local town hall near Memphis, Tennessee. At the U of C, she has continued this line of work through her involvement in Student Government as College Council Representative for the Class of 2014, where she collaborated with Green Campus Initiative on promoting the green certification program for student-run events. In her free time, Melissa enjoys cooking, fine dining, traveling, and meditation.
Zach Felsenstein (Summer 2012 - Present)
Zach Felsenstein is a Public Policy major and member of the class of 2015. As a Metcalf Intern, he is currently working on a new Green Office Certification program, planning the office's O-Week activities, and creating updated campus-wide recycling signage. During the past year, you may have seen him helping run the Recycling Ninja game for the SAGE Waste & Recycling Committee, or giving campus tours to prospective students. In his free time, he enjoys jogging by Lake Michigan and can often be found on weekends in one of Chicago's many cupcake shops.
