Formed in spring of 2004 by students in Green Campus Initiative, and incorporated into the Office of the Vice-President in 2006, the Sustainability Council works to:
- Promote greater environmental awareness throughout the University
- Centralize information on sustainability at the University
- Develop sustainability initiatives for faculty, staff and students
- Assess institutional progress toward increasing sustainability on campus
Meetings take place twice a quarter, usually on Fridays of third and second week, for an hour and a half.
The Sustainability Council is composed of the following members:
Student Representatives
1) Council Co-Chair (all students, graduate or undergraduate)
2) Representative from Green Campus Initiative (GCI)
3) Representative from campus environmental groups (GCI, UCECC, ECO, GAIA, Vegan Society, or REI)
4) Representative from student social justice groups
5) Graduate student representative
6) Representative from students-at-large (may not be in an environmental or social justice RSO. Open to undergraduates and graduate students.)
7) Representative from Student Government

1) Representative from Facilities Services or VP-DOS (as Council co-Chair)
2) Representative from Facilities Services
3) Representative from VPDOS
